Early Years at Black Horse Hill Infant School

At Black Horse Hill Infant School, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We know that when children feel safe, valued, and cared for, they thrive. Our dedicated Early Years team takes the time to truly know each child, building warm and supportive relationships that help them grow in confidence and independence.

We believe that strong partnerships with families are essential in giving children the best possible start. From the moment a child joins our school, we work closely with parents and carers, getting to know families and building trusting relationships that support each child's development. Through regular communication, shared learning experiences, and an open-door approach, we ensure that families feel welcomed, involved, and supported every step of the way.

Our rich, play-based curriculum encourages children to explore, investigate, and develop a love for learning. Through carefully planned activities and exciting hands-on experiences, we nurture curiosity, creativity, and resilience. Our learning environments both indoors and outdoors are thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of every child, providing engaging opportunities that support their individual interests and development.

A strong start in reading is a key focus in our Early Years. From Foundation 1 onwards, children develop a love of books through storytelling, imaginative play, and shared reading experiences. In Foundation 2, they build on this foundation through our highly effective phonics programme, learning to decode words and develop early fluency.

Every child is unique, and we are committed to meeting the needs of all our children. Our qualified teachers and experienced Early Years practitioners carefully plan and adapt activities to ensure that each child is supported and challenged appropriately. By truly knowing our children and their families, we can provide learning experiences that build on their strengths and help them reach their full potential.

Above all, we want our children to be happy, confident learners who feel part of a warm and inclusive school family.

We would love to welcome you to visit and experience the fun, laughter, and learning that takes place in our Early Years setting every day.
